There was great excitement in a full to capacity Breaffy GAA Clubhouse on Saturday 18th April when the Tavrane N.S. Music Group won the Instrumental Music section of Mayo Scór na bPáistí. This is the second year in a row that the school has won the competition which is a fantastic achievement.
One of the pieces which they performed was ‘Planxty Dermot Grogan’, a beautiful composition written by well-known musician and composer Holly Geraghty. Dermot, who was a native of Tavrane and past pupil of the school, was a renowned traditional musician and it certainly was an apt choice of music to perform on the day. It is great to see the legacy of Dermot Grogan continuing to inspire young people in our locality to take up an instrument and keep our musical heritage alive and strong.
Earlier today (Friday) we gathered in the school to share the joy! It was a short, simple gathering filled with happiness and music (and more than a little good food!!). It was lovely to see some past pupils return to share their friends’ joy and to share a tune.
Congrats to them all.
